Open Enrollment: School Choice for CCSD Families
What is Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment, formerly known as Change of School Assignment, enables families to apply for seats in Clark County School District (CCSD) schools that have open and available spaces.
Open Enrollment schools are different from Magnet schools. You can read more about the Magnet school application process here. All are part of CCSD’s efforts to provide choice to our families and students.
The first round of applications for both Open Enrollment schools and Magnet schools is available from October 2025 through January 13, 2026.
Late applications will be processed on a rolling basis in the Spring and Summer.
How It Works
Identify the Open Enrollment school(s) you would like to apply for: Here is a list of schools that currently have open seats that will be filled through the Open Enrollment process.
Apply online – Click here to complete a simple application in your preferred language. You can apply for up to three schools through the Open Enrollment process and up to three programs through the Magnet process.
Lottery system – If a school receives more applications than it has available seats, a lottery determines which students are offered placement. Students not selected initially remain in an alternate pool and may be offered a seat if one becomes available. Seats will be filled through the tenth day of the school year.
Notification – Parents/guardians will be notified prior to Spring Break (by Friday, March 13, 2026) via text and/or email, depending on the communication format they selected on their application.
One acceptance – Once families have accepted a seat for their child, all other applications (for Open Enrollment and Magnet schools) for that student will be automatically declined.
What You Need to Know
No transportation provided – Families are responsible for getting their students to and from the school for Open Enrollment.
Enrollment continues through grade levels – Once accepted, your student can remain at that school through the highest grade offered at that school. A new Open Enrollment application is required when transitioning from elementary to middle school or from middle school to high school.
Available schools – Not all schools have open seats. The list of participating Open Enrollment schools is determined by available capacity.
What’s Changing from the Change of School Assignment?
Most of the process remains the same:
| Process | COSA (Previous system) |
Open Enrollment (New system) |
|---|---|---|
| Allows parents/guardians the opportunity to apply to a school outside the assigned attendance zone. | ☑ | ☑ |
| Allows CCSD employees the opportunity to apply for their own students to attend a school outside of their assigned attendance zone. | ☑ | ☑ |
| Parents/guardians may complete an online application, which is available in multiple languages. | ☑ | ☑ |
| Applications are available within a specified timeline (a first round in October–January and a rolling late application throughout Spring/Summer, as additional seats can be filled). | ☑ | ☑ |
| Parents/guardians are notified if the request is granted or denied. | ☑ | ☑ |
| A lottery is conducted if there are more requests than the number of available seats at the requested school. | ☑ | ☑ |
| Priority is given to students in accordance with Nevada State law. (i.e., Open Enrollment applications from students at one- and two-star schools have the highest priority.) | □ | ☑ |
| Siblings are given priority in the lottery process if the sibling is already enrolled and attending the school to which the student applies. Siblings are defined as a brother, sister, stepbrother, or stepsister living in the same household. Preferences are applied to a student’s first choice on the application. | ☑ | ☑ |
| If the student is not offered a seat in the initial lottery, they will remain in a pool of applicants until if/when a seat becomes available. | ☑ | ☑ |
| Parents/guardians may only accept one offered seat. Once accepted, all other applications (Magnet and Open Enrollment) will be declined. | ☑ | ☑ |
| Once accepted into an Open Enrollment seat, students can attend the school through the highest grade level offered at that school without re-applying. | ☑ | ☑ |
| A new Open Enrollment application is needed when the student changes levels from elementary to middle or middle to high school. | □ | ☑ |
| Transportation will not be provided for Open Enrollment schools. | ☑ | ☑ |
| CCSD will publish the capacity publicly for each grade level and school. | □ | ☑ |
